What does Be Unequaled represent and what was the thought process behind the venture?
Be Unequaled’s is a place where people can promote their individuality. The idea was basically the realisation of what the BBC website I built should have been!
Why and when did Be Unequaled begin?
Be Unequaled began in March/April 2007, Billionaire-Boys-Club.co.uk was started way back in October 2005! Be Unequaled was the natural evolution of a brand centred website.
Despite being a UK led network, are you surprised as to popularity of both BU and BBC with the international community?
Not really, the idea behind the BBC site was to be an international site, it just had a UK domain name as all the relevant .com domains were taken! It was my first real venture into a website on this scale and I admit that I made a mistake of regionalising it through the domain name. Luckily, our user base represented a ridiculous number of countries across the world before the switch to a .com domain.
For those un-aware of Be Unequaled, how would you describe the site and its ethos?
Be Unequaled’s mantra is to ‘stand out from the crowd’. That’s what the site is there to promote, just being different, unique and yourself. Off course, people follow trends, but hopefully we bring something different to the table when compared to other sites. Our emphasis is on the community with a large directory of stores and brands and a casual blog as added extras.
What is the future of Be Unequaled? What are your aspirations?
The BBC site surpassed my expectations completely and Be Unequaled has just carried that success over. Hopefully we see a bit more growth in the number of active members, but otherwise, the site is doing well. I am looking to expand things as much as I can, it’s just finding the time that’s hard!
I’m sure many followers of urbanite fashion will be aware that you are the brains behind billionaire-boys-club.co.uk, why did you close and move away from this venture, especially considering the site was the leading portal for the named label?
The brand became a farce. Over-priced and over-hyped. The forum stagnated and needed a refresh. The domain name also limited the member base, because 99% of people would be looking for BBC or BAPE. Be Unequaled gave me an opportunity to promote and discuss more brands and build something that offered a lot more than the BBC site could.
Who is BBchaz? Is there anything you would like to tell your community about yourself?
BBChaz was my alias from the BBC days (BBC + Chaz). I’m a web developer and that’s all you need to know :p
Who (if any) do you actively follow within the fashion industry?
I follow Futura and Maharishi because of admiration for the first and some past connections with the latter. I try and keep an eye on things while doing everything else I need to do, but I find myself being less of a ‘beast and more of an individual now.
As the figurehead behind the BU community, how would you describe your style?
Very casual. Jeans or shorts and a T are all you’ll find me in on most days. Luckily, my line of work allows for that on a daily basis ![]()
When perusing Be Unequaled’s community forum, which users posts most often put a smile on your face?
There isn’t a single user, but most of the ‘OGs’ usually come up with something worthwhile to laugh at or think about!
